The 59th Annual Walter Wise Memorial Police Pistol Match

2017 Recap

This year, we had 137 shooters from FL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, PA, and VA compete in the 58th Annual Walter Wise MemorialPolice Pistol Match which was held on September 16-17 at the outdoor Bullseye range. It was nice to see old friends and fellow shooters again!

After colors, three relays of Rimfire and Centerfire matches were shot each day.

Khang Le from Chantilly, VA won the match for his 6th year in a row with a two-day aggregate score of 3591-253x. Jeff Beatty from Hershey, PA was 2nd and close behind with 3591-233x, and Steven Gibbons from Lewistown, PA was in 3rd and only one point down with 3590-268x. Competition was fierce this year!

In the 5-Man Team Matches, the Metropolitan Pistol League Team was the Grand Winner in both Rimfire and Centerfire. This was their 2nd year in a row winning both matches.

In the 2-Man Team Matches, Kent Le and Hiem Trang were the Class A Winners in both Rimfire and Centerfire on Saturday and Sunday.

In the Special Categories, Julie Latzgo was High Woman, Samantha Wheary was High Junior, Jeff Beatty was High Senior, Ed Grove was High Grand Senior, Bernard Kenny was High Super Senior, Steven Gibbons was High Police, and SGT Raymond Todd was High Service.

In the special Commemorative Centerfire Revolver Match, Khang Le won for the second year in a row with a score of 295-15x.

Three Standing Records were broken at the match:

  • Julie Latzgo set a new record in the High Woman Centerfire Aggregate on Saturday with an 892-47x, and then broke it on Sunday with an 898-58x!
  • Kyler Swisher set a new record in the High Junior Rimfire Aggregate on Saturday with an 899-53x, beating his previous record of 896-50x.
  • Ed Grove set a new record in the Grand Senior Rimfire Aggregate on Saturday with an 897-59x.

Special thanks go out to the many volunteers who helped make the match a success, including those who did registration, squadding, range preparation/setup/teardown, line calling, range safety, score card processing, data entry and reporting, awards, t-shirt and raffle sales, and meal preparation and service. You are the ones who make it happen, and your dedication and hard work are greatly appreciated. We certainly could not hold an event of this magnitude without you! Thanks, everyone!!!!

Next year’s match will be held on September 15-16, 2018. Please mark your calendars and plan on coming to shoot with us again. Feel free to bring some new shooters with you to share in the fun! Our match is open to the public.
