Youth Field Day
Youth Field Day is a free outdoor event for participants ages 8 through 16. Activities may include archery, fishing, boating safety, canoeing, the Cherokee Run obstacle course and closely supervised shooting activities. Equipment is supplied for this event.
Kids Fishing Derby
The Kids Fishing Derby is a free annual event at Sheesley Lake on HHA grounds. Children ages 5 through 12 may participate in the official derby and compete for prizes. Older youth are welcome to fish but are not eligible for the derby competition or prizes.
Participants must bring their own fishing gear and bait; live minnows are not allowed. Children should be able to cast and retrieve independently, although parents or guardians may bait hooks and remove fish. Complimentary food and drinks are provided to participants. Sheesley Lake contains bluegill, sunfish, bass and catfish.
For current event details, contact Brian Mountain at

Scouting, Sea Cadets and JROTC
HHA hosts programs for local Cub Scout packs and Scouts BSA troops, as well as training and skill-building opportunities for the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and JROTC groups. Activities vary by organization and may include firearm safety, supervised shooting, outdoor skills, leadership and personal responsibility. Participation is coordinated through each partner organization.
4-H Shooting Sports and Archery
The 4-H Rifle Club introduces youth to three-position rifle shooting at 50 meters, firearm safety, firearm history, Second Amendment education and civic leadership. The club practices for 12 weeks during the summer.
The 4-H Archery Club serves youth ages 9 through 18. Participants learn archery fundamentals, marksmanship, the history of the sport, arrow building and the parts and types of bows. Crossbows are not part of this program.
Public Safety Partnerships and Community Service
HHA provides training space for local law enforcement agencies and the security force at Three Mile Island. Members also participate in Pennsylvania’s Adopt-a-Highway program by helping remove litter along Locust Lane.
Instructor Development
HHA hosts instructor-development sessions that help prepare adult volunteers from across Pennsylvania to teach youth shooting sports. Training may cover competitive air pistol, competitive rifle, archery and black powder shooting.
