Police Pistol Combat
Low cost handgun competition for every skill level
Police Pistol Combat matches offer a friendly, structured way to improve practical handgun marksmanship under time pressure. HHA welcomes civilian and law-enforcement shooters, and no previous competition experience or specialized competition firearm is required.
Season
Monthly matches from April through October
Match fee
$5 per relay
What to Expect
PPC combines timed shooting from several positions with reloads and both strong-hand and weak-hand shooting. Shooters may attend when their schedule permits and may enter as many relays as they like.
- The matches are not NRA sanctioned, but HHA follows NRA PPC rules and procedures as closely as practical.
- New shooters receive free initial instruction on the course of fire, range procedures, and equipment.
- Open to the public; all skill levels are welcome!
Match Formats
Combat 600: The standard 60-round course uses six-round strings. Shooters draw from a strong-side hip holster, reload from equipment carried on the body, and fire from several distances and positions. Revolvers are fired double action only.
Off Duty: The 50-round course uses five-round strings and begins from low ready rather than from a holster. It is fired during the same relay as the Combat 600 course.
Equipment
- A qualifying centerfire or .22 LR rimfire handgun for the selected gun class
- A sturdy belt and strong-side hip holster that covers the trigger guard for Combat 600
- At least three magazines or speed loaders; five or more are recommended
- 60 rounds per Combat 600 relay or 50 rounds per Off Duty relay
- Eye and ear protection
- A pen or pencil for scoring
A range bag, belt-mounted magazine or speed-loader holders, clipboard, and scoring overlay are helpful but not required.
Gun Classes
- Stock Service Semi-Automatic Pistol
- Stock Service Revolver
- Stock Off Duty Semi-Automatic Pistol or Revolver
- Any Rimfire Gun
- Open Centerfire Gun
The Match Director makes final class determinations. Lasers and flashlights may remain attached to a firearm but may not be used during the match.
Safety and Range Procedures
PPC uses a cold range. Firearms must remain unloaded and holstered or bagged until a shooter is under the direct supervision of a Range Safety Officer on the firing line or is handling an unloaded firearm in the designated safe area.
Ammunition may not be handled in the safe area. Eye and ear protection are required, and every shooter must follow the Range Safety Officer's commands.
Additional Info
Matches are generally held on the first Saturday of each month from April through October, weather and attendance permitting. The normal schedule begins at 9 a.m. and runs until approximately noon.
An early relay may be offered during June, July, and August. Check the current match flyer and HHA calendar for exact dates and holiday changes.
