Advanced Handgun Classes

Each handgun course builds on the ideology and techniques taught in the previous class and is to be taken in order as detailed below.  As part of the registration process, students may need to perform prequalification exercises.  All instructors are NRA certified in various levels of Handgun and are NRA certified Range Safety Officers or Chief Range Safety Officers. Classes are held in the PPC classroom trailer and on the PPC range.  Class dates are posted in the calendar and also in the newsletter. 

Defensive Handgun Skills
A 4-hour course unique to HH&A to introduce the experienced shooter to the defensive mindset, levels of awareness, carry modes, defensive shooting techniques, speed reloads and clearing malfunctions.

Personal Protection In The Home
A 9-hour NRA course which further develops the defensive mindset, preparing a safe room, the use of barriers for cover and concealment, standing, kneeling and crouching positions, multiple shot placement and targets, controlling an encounter, physiological and psychological reactions, and legal/ethical considerations.

Concealed Carry Skills
A 4-hour course unique to HH&A to introduce the advanced shooter to drawing from a holster and reholstering with and without a concealment garment, responding to an attack using standing, kneeling and crouching positions, accelerated shooting, and deep concealment techniques.

Personal Protection Outside The Home
An NRA 2-part course offered as the Basic (9 hours)  and the Advanced (5 hours).  The Basic covers local, state and national gun laws, advanced carry modes, advanced defensive mindset and shooting from concealment unique to public venues, one-handed shooting, point shooting, and engaging multiple targets.  The Advanced course is all range time where students will shoot in various positions, move and turn in multiple directions, use barricades, hip shoot, one-hand shoot, and use low light conditions.
